Sign That Summer Is Almost Over - Fall Clothes

New York Magazine suggests 6 key pieces from the Fall/Winter runway shows in this slideshow.  Whether these can be transitioned into my own wardrobe - well, that is questionable.
  1. Capes - Umm no. If you're tall and willowy, this may look great.  However, if you're short like me this is going to look more little red riding hood (especially that cape pictured) than anything else.  The closest I'll be getting to the cape will be my favorite $10 airport pashminas.
  2. Nordic Knits and Highland Plaids - I can totally get behind the plaid look owning MANY plaid shirts, but the Nordic knits look like something my mother used to dress me in to go skating.  I wonder if the runway shows paired these sweaters over down-filled snow pants and a second-hand hockey helmet?
  3. Boxy Bags - Love them.  You can fit all your stuff in them and if it's big enough and positioned correctly, you can disguise some of your Winter weight gain.
  4. Sky High Socks - If someone can explain to me how to wear these without looking like some kind of overgrown school girl I would be open to hearing how/when/where one can wear these things.  They would be very cozy under my work pants on a cold day.
  5. Furry Boots - Only if you're Russian or Mariah Carey.
  6. Relaxed Up Top/Party On The Bottom - The picture features a model in a slouchy sweater and a ball gown style skirt.  I'm having visions of the Olsen twins - but not me.
Living in NYC, I'll probably encounter many of these look in the coming months.  Just hopefully not all together!
